A Big Announcement
My new professional titles & a publication about community, family, and technology
Dear subscribers to numinousexperience (the VC, tech, and personal writing publication of me, Nicole Ruiz).
I wanted to write you all to alert you of an exciting new project of mine, The Third Oikos, a newsletter about what the good life looks like when technology is reshaping the society and the household.
I wrote an introductory essay about what the Third Oikos is here - if that speaks to you, consider subscribing to that newsletter so that future pieces land directly in your inbox!
The first interview in this series is with Jesse Genet - “She founded several companies starting at the age of 16, went off to design school against her family’s wishes, and ultimately took one company, Lumi, through the startup accelerator Y-Combinator, and Lumi was acquired later on. While raising 5 children, she was still working at her acquirer’s company full time. Today she’s expecting their 7th, homeschools, manages several small family businesses, and supports her husband’s nascent startup. Today, Jesse sees her large, blended family as another ambitious project — an evolution of the same drive that fueled her companies.” I’m very excited for you to read more.
This project is made possible by The Institute for Family Studies & The Foundation for American Innovation. The Institute for Family Studies is a think-tank that publishes proprietary, data-driven research on family and society (I love this report on housing for young families), and I’m honored to join as a visiting fellow. The Foundation for American Innovation is a think-tank of technologists and policy entrepreneurs working to advance a more perfect union between technology and the American republic, and I’m honored to join as a non-resident fellow.
If it’s been a while since we’ve chatted - send me a message, I’d love to chat more about this new project and catch up.

Such a relevant and rich topic. Excited to read more and see how these conversations unfold.
